Senior Resident Engineer
at Bell Canada in Toronto, ON, CANADA
The Bell Business Markets (BBM) Professional Services Team is the consulting and technical engineering arm supporting the BBM Sales Organization. It is responsible for the design & delivery of compelling technology solutions to meet our customers’ business needs. The Professional Services Engineering team has a strong applied knowledge and understanding of data networking technologies, IT security solutions and in convergence portfolios such as VoIP & Wireless.

As the Resident Engineer you will be working at a leading Canadian Bank with senior personnel that are fully trained and experienced with the technology within the Bank’s environment. The Resident Engineer will have experience with Nortel network design and will be Cisco certified with a minimum of a CCDP designation.
Your accountabilities will be:
The Resident Engineers may be expected to perform any or all the following activities:
o On-site repair activities in the Toronto Area
o Second and/or third line support with access to OEM’s premium support resources
o Provide after-hours support on an as-needed and reasonable-effort basis, as negotiated with Supplier
o Network planning and design activities:
- Detailed network technology design and consulting
- Analyze, review, and recommend configuration information
- Analyze inter-network traffic flow
- Designs and solutions to incorporate Bank’s strategic technology direction, security governance, business continuity
- Assist in the defining and determining business and operational project requirements
- Identification and recommendations on technology opportunities
- Assist in network capacity planning
- Creation of technical engineering and support documentation
- Participate in various technical forums, governing boards and committees to determine and/or provide requirements for new and existing network configurations
- Develop network standards and interfaces to applications
- Identifies and evaluates new products
- Provide solutions for complex technical issues
- Operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning
- Recommend modifications as appropriate and assist with implementation of modifications
- Implement and test products to include new, or upgrades of, hardware and software
- Configure hardware and software for full functionality
o • Troubleshooting
- Diagnose, isolate faults, and repair equipment failures or order and provision spares when required
- Follow up on service restoration with root cause analysis of service disruption incidents
- Assist with communication, consultation, coordination, escalation and leadership to address major problems
- Open and close trouble tickets as needed
o • Informal training, mentoring and general knowledge transfer
o • Act as the liaison between the Bank’s operations personnel and OEM’s customer support including Service Account Management team and Engineering staff.
As an Engineer in a leading edge technology team you will work with customers, sales, operations and other Bell Canada internal groups. You will provide BBM customers with integrated solutions.
In this role you will need:
• Technical expertise in the design of convergence solutions, advanced data and internetworking
• Advanced IP network design capabilities
• Technical expertise in the design of advanced voice and convergence solutions with relevant major experience with Nortel routing and switching hardware (eg Passport 8600), as well familiarity with Cisco data networking hardware (eg. Cisco Catalyst 6500)
• Ability to translate client business requirements into sound technical solutions that leverage Bell Canada’s BBM products and services’
• Must maintain an up-to-date understanding of the industry trends and best practices in network and proactively identify and present these trends to the client so that you can deliver new business opportunities to our customers
• Provide technical design leadership
• Provide required documentation to properly outline statements of work, technology changes and drive solution deployment.
• Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations as required
Your qualifications/ competencies are:
• Recent and relevant applied experience with IP routing and Ethernet switching technologies such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, HSRP/VRRP, Multicast, STP, RSTP, 802.1Q, RTP, SNMP, MPLS, PoE (802.3af) and DiffServ with Nortel Product Lines.
• At least 5 years of relevant related experience
• Industry recognized certifications such as:
• Nortel Networks Certified Design/Support Expert/Architect
