Sr. Product Manager, Optical Services

Accountability/Position Summary
Manage the product performance of Allstream’s Optical Wavelength services (aka “WDM”) within the IPC portfolio. This includes setting and executing on product strategy and delivering cross-functional initiative prioritization to achieve revenue and contribution margin objectives, and delivery on the Allstream brand promise.
Key Responsibilities
• Understand the competitive environment for IP Converged services and the needs of our customers and prospects
• Manage the evolution of our existing IP Converged services
• Positioning and communication of Allstream’s WDM services in the marketplace
• Understand how changes in technology can be used to improve these services
• Maintain a roadmap of service enhancements that are required to succeed in the market (totally new services, new features and pricing changes)
• Pricing support and refinement of pricing structures to ensure a simple, effective and accurate view of current market requirements
• Develop the product specifications for new and existing services and work with New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to bring new services to market
• Strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting of product set
• Participate in sales activities through input to proposal development and customer presentations
• Create and maintain product support documentation including, Customer/Sales presentations, service over views, process and training material
• Monitor and maintain product pricing models balancing between profitability and the realities of the competitive environment
Specific Functional/Technical Knowledge and Skills
• Financial analysis skills are an asset (e.g. Business Cases, P&L, Forecasting etc.)
• Strong knowledge of Data & Internet technologies/platforms and related solutions
• Knowledge of Allstream’s service delivery processes would be an asset
• Expert knowledge of Carrier Ethernet and Optical services, market positioning
• Expert knowledge Carrier Wholesale and Enterprise market segment requirements
• Familiarity with VPLS and MPLS technologies
• Familiarity with current Enterprise and Carrier IT service trends
• Familiarity with ILEC wholesale services and tariff structure is a strong asset
Other Skills/Competencies/Attributes
Education & Certification:
• University degree a must. Engineering degree, BSc or BA (Marketing, Engineering, Telecommunications Management) MBA desirable.
Experience:
• Experience in Telecommunications or related High-Tech companies.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in Marketing with 3+ years in Product Management.
• Proven background in product management and business/economic planning within a telecommunications environment.
