full time Solutions Architect

Accountability/Position Summary

The Solution Architect:
• in conjunction with the Director of Architecture, the Vice-President Technology Services, and the Chief Technology & Information Officer, has overall accountability in technology recommendations, and a leadership role in deploying the technology through active IT projects.
• provides IT technology leadership to IT and business communities within the company, communicating their knowledge and insight across all divisions of the corporation.
• provides technical direction to a group of projects, servicing each project with diligence and commitment towards their success.
• contributes to the efficiency of the corporation through the planning, recommending, and engineering of high quality technology solutions (through acquisition or development) exceeding corporate service level targets for availability and performance.
• contributes to the financial success of the corporation through the participation in the formulation, development, and compliance of the Application and Technology Architecture, ensuring cost efficient, compatible technology solutions and secure accessibility to computing resources.
• contributes to the financial success of the corporation through participating in the development of the Application and Technology Architecture Roadmaps and policies to align IT work effort with the strategic business directions to ensure continued revenue growth and reduced operating expenses.
• contributes to the operating performance and corporate human resource empowerment strategies by motivating and educating technology staff on technology directions / strategies / and its alignment with corporate business strategies for revenue generation or operating expense reduction.

Key Responsibilities

• perform technical risk assessments – examining the impact to delivery, cost, enterprise architecture/application portfolio strategy, and MTS Information Technology readiness
• work with infrastructure staff, delivery staff, IT mgmt, and IT clients to produce high quality solutions
• define the application, infrastructure, information, and security architectures; develops the interface strategy/design, and assesses vendor product compliance to the technology architecture
• produce the required solution architecture deliverable for the project.
• work with the Project Manager, Analyst, the software developers, and other IT staff to identify activities, estimates, strategies, risks
• provide technical leadership to projects
• provide technical evaluations, expertise, feasibility assessments, peer reviews and technical advice in general
• lead the solving of major technical problems and develop viable solution options
• understand, communicate, and promote the Enterprise Architecture vision as part of project work as well as within Information Technology and MTS Allstream at large
• stay abreast of IT trends, vendor products, and industry strategies
• lead technology Proof Of Concepts
• proactively communicates the results of this research to staff and management within Information Technology

Specific Functional/Technical Knowledge and Skills

• High degree of literacy in complex application development across multiple computing environments through all aspects of the System Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
• Demonstrated knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture and the The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF)
• Demonstrated knowledge of design tools and methodologies (waterfall and Object Oriented)
• Demonstrated knowledge of operating systems, telephony, messaging, development languages, communication protocols, and infrastructure hardware/devices
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer engineering principles and best practices
• Demonstrated knowledge of project management methodology
• Demonstrated knowledge of ITIL concepts and practices
• Demonstrated knowledge of the TMForum frameworks for process, data, and application
