Web Developer
at Meteor in 1 HSQ, St. John\'s Road
Objectives
To participate in the definition and implementation of the web capability strategy that delivers the online vision of transforming eircom into a net-centric business.
The web developer will be part of the delivery team and will be responsible for the development of online applications and templates to provide the required end to end customer proposition and journey online. This will include defining and developing front end online interfaces, business logic and technical interfaces with eircom’s core systems and 3rd party strategic web partners
Key Tasks
1. Contribute to Capability Strategy
· To participate in the definition and implementation of eircom’s web capability strategy
2. Web development and capability deployment
· Design and develop web applications that separate backend end integration from business logic and presentation
· Define and develop technical interfaces with eircom core technical systems and 3rd party applications (provisioning, billing, user authentication, etc)
· Implement the data structures and code required to read data feeds originated by web users, 3rd party content feeds, product and user information databases or any other data source required to support and deliver the business requirements
· To develop and maintain eircom’s online technical infrastructure including personalisation, content management, authentication and ecommerce systems
· To write technical specification documents describing systems and applications following industry and company standards.
· To write, deploy and implement development test plans
· To facilitate knowledge transfer into other technical users, site managers and business users
· To be proficient on all applications and systems used by the Eircom online department to assist end users in taking full advantage of those applications (advertising servers, email, reporting, tracking, knowledge base)
· Keep up-to-date with developments in the industry
· Provide first level support for all systems and applications during office hours and out-off hours on-call support
3. Relationship Management
· Behave according to “our way” values at all times
· To maintain and develop partnerships with other eircom departments (eg. technology)
and 3rd party technology providers
· To work collaboratively with business owners to ensure business requirements are fully understood and that technical constraints and features are understood by business owners
Required experience - Technical
Ø Expert user of HTML, with ability to differentiate display and performance issues when developing in different platforms (MAC, windows) or for different browsers (Netscape, IE, etc.)
Ø Expert user of XML language, with ability to use template languages (XSL, CSS) and to develop and understand DTD
Ø Expert use of J2EE (including development of java apps, JSP, servlets, EJB technology and use of java webservices, MVC)
Ø Experience using MVC web application frameworks (preferably the Spring Framework) Expert in user authentication technologies including (LDAP, Other)
Ø A good understanding of the different developments stages for the development of online projects
Ø Experience working with cookies and other user tracking technologies
Ø Experience working with applications and systems used by complex online infrastructures including online advertising servers, email managements, reporting & tracking tools
Ø Previous experience using portal, Content Management Systems, personalisation, ecommerce and application servers
Ø Previous experience in developing and implementing database systems using SQL server or Oracle will be an advantage
Ø Experience in configuring and maintaining web servers, java containers and application servers
Ø Knowledge in configuring and maintaining routers, switches and SLBs
Competency Profile
Ø Ability to develop mockups and summarise features for concept and prototyping
Ø Good attention to detail
Ø Ability to originate ideas or proposals for visual communication and problem solving
Ø Ability to follow schedules
Ø Ability to make decisions by balancing complex factors
Ø Good written and verbal communication skills, to communicate with colleagues and customers
