Legal Counsel, Sales

Scope:

The Legal & Regulatory team is part of O2’s Finance & Professional Services Directorate. The team provides advice to clients within the business and seeks to add value by ensuring that the decision making process benefits from an excellent grasp of the relevant legal and regulatory issues at an appropriate stage.
The Sales team is responsible for the delivery of legal advice across Telefónica O2 UK’s Business Sales and Consumer Sales directorates.
The ideal candidate will be an excellent commercial lawyer and will work be able to provide advice on complicated commercial contracts with a wide range of clients.
Responsibilities:
The candidate will be a commercially astute lawyer, comfortable advising on matters ranging from tenders to contract negotiations to disputes. Typically working as part of a project team in which you will often be the sole legal adviser, you will be expected to provide advice, work autonomously, and develop excellent relationships with internal clients. General responsibilities may include:
? providing advice and drafting to bid managers who negotiate corporate customer contracts;
? negotiating and drafting sales contracts;
? preparing standard form agreements and terms;
? providing general legal advice and assistance;
? supporting senior team members on special projects;
? instructing and managing external lawyers;
? initiation and implementation of working practices aimed at improving the provision of legal support; and
? training and development for internal clients.
The principal clients are:
? the consumer sales director and his or her direct reports;
? consumer sales account managers;
? the business sales director and his or her direct reports;
? the bid management team;
? corporate and SME account managers;
? commercial finance; and
? customer services and sales support.
While the areas listed above will constitute the majority of work undertaken, you must being willing to be flexible and undertake other work as capacity demands.
The right person will:
· be a lawyer qualified in the UK or a common law jurisdiction
· possess a sound knowledge of law (particularly contract)
· possess sound technical legal skills (drafting contacts and advice/negotiating)
· have the ability to think on his or her feet
· be able to put the legal services into a proper commercial context (see a bigger picture)
· be a team player who can also accept responsibility
· be someone who thrives in a results driven open culture
· be confident and able to provide clear and articulate advice at any level
· be able to contribute to teams (within legal as well as cross-functional)
· be able to manage conflicting client demands
· possess strong influencing and negotiating skills
· be mature and posses a strong character to complement a demanding client base
· be flexible, open-minded, commercially savvy and keen for a challenge
· be able to undertake travel within and outside the UK where required.
Prior experience relating to fixed line telecommunications services would be an advantage.
