Essence of Role
1 Impact on the Business
• Financial decision support to key activities within business areas supported (incl. Monitors actual performance against business cases used for approval process
• Ensures cost management and financial control within functional area
• Provides input into the forecasts, budgets and financial plans for the function
• Leads the preparation for business cases engaging all relevant stakeholders. Manages and secures the resources to get the project completed
• Reviews all existing data for area of responsibility, providing challenge and insight into usage patterns and costs across all the territories, and makes recommendations
• Interprets data from OpCos in an intelligent manner and produce summaries for the finance manager team and distribution to the functional area Directors
• Establish strong working relationships with the finance and ‘virtual’ teams across the OpCos and Group

2 Customers Suppliers and Third Parties
• Provides technical advice to non–financial customers in a manner that is easily understood and that is in line with current accounting standards
• Provides guidance and support to Senior Finance Manager in all areas of operational performance relating to functional areas
• Establishs strong working relationships with the finance and ‘virtual’ teams across the OpCos and Group
• Keep stakeholders and team members up to speed on progress, highlighting concerns, recommending solutions and influencing final decisions

3 Leadership and Teamwork
• Works as part of the group finance team to meet targets, sharing best practice. Questioning data and sharing ideas with team
• Works as part of wider cross functional teams to increase understanding of finance priorities and contribute to development plan reviews with the team
• Works within ‘virtual’ teams, coaching non-financial members on financial disciplines
• Provides continual coaching/training to all new employees

4 Innovation and Change
• Interface with Group Finance to influence development of Hyperion and other tools to encompass data required for commercial analysis
• Reviews the process for recording actual data and how it is reported. Ensures new financial end-to-end processes are adopted with full buy-in, communication and documentation to support it
• Reviews the current process, make recommendations for improvements and ensure that these are fully implemented and reviewed, taking into account the effects of any change in reporting structure
• Develops and implements specific KPIs and financial ratios to evaluate the performance of the functional area, identify and recommend actions to management to ensure KPIs performance is achieved

5 Knowledge and Experience
• Provides expertise on all financial aspects of the area of management among both finance and management communities

6 Communication
• Able to communicate financial information clearly to financial and non-financial people
• Earn the trust of senior management to give guidance and support and lead financial initiatives

Technical/Professional Expertise
• CIMA/ACA/ACCA/MBA qualified with experience.
• Blue chip/ technology experience essential. Mobile Telecommunications experience preferable.
• Strong prioritisation and organisational skills
• Highly motivated self-starter able to work with minimal direct supervision.
• A strong character who can communicate on all levels within the business clearly and confidently.
• Ability to communicate financial issues to non-finance staff, ability to coach/train non-finance Managers in expanding their knowledge.
• Able to work to tight deadlines in a changing environment whilst remaining calm and producing accurate output.
• Commercial knowledge and understanding
• Proven analytical skills. Understands financial data to provide value-added insight
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Fully proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite of packages, including the use of Excel to advanced level
• Experience of at least two of the following:- Hyperion, SAP, Cognos

• Regular liaison with senior commercial staff within functional area of support
• Frequent interaction with other Group functions e.g. Group Finance/Legal / Regulatory
• Regular liaison with Regional and OpCo senior finance staff
• Relationships with external third parties
• Responsible for supporting the business with robust decision making and with appropriate financial analysis

Finance Core Competencies – Level 2/3
• Understands the key drivers that influence financial decision making
• Has the necessary knowledge and skills to spot technical issues and develop necessary solutions
• Understands the significance of cash control
• Able to communicate financial information clearly to financial and non-financial people
• Able to identify risks in own areas by assessing the probability and impact of risk
• Able to identify inconsistencies in financial information
• Demonstrates basic understanding of legal, environmental, regulatory and commercial frameworks in which Vodafone operates
• Has knowledge of applicable internal controls, policies and procedures
