Financial Accountant

Essence of Role
Impact on the business
• Assist in the production of timely consolidated financial information for provision to the Group’s senior management, including the Board, Executive Committee and regional management.
• Assist with the monthly Group consolidation and preparation of the Group management accounts.
• Assist with preparation of the Preliminary Announcement and Annual Report & Accounts within tight time scales.
• Take responsibility for completion of assigned areas of the Group’s Interim Announcement. Preliminary Announcement and Annual Report & Accounts, ensuring information disclosed is complete and in line with the requirements of IFRS.
• Participate as directed in the continued development of Hyperion Enterprise to ensure it continues to support the consolidation process.
Customers, supplier and third parties
• Undertake ad hoc finance projects as directed by the Director of Financial Reporting, the Group Financial Controller and other senior finance personnel.
• Act as point of contact for operating and holding companies. Respond proactively to any queries raised or comments received on reports or analysis.
• Review monthly reporting with regional representatives to establish meaningful analysis of each company’s results and financial position.
Leadership and teamwork
• Identify accounting and reporting issues and proactively discuss these with other team members or management and ensure resolution.
• Work within our team of 4 and with other teams (External Reporting, Planning, Tax, Treasury and Regional Teams) as required to ensure the integrity of the Group consolidation and that the reporting process runs smoothly with no surprises.
Innovation and change
• Participate as directed in the development of the Group’s implementation of HFM to replace Hyperion Enterprise.
• Undertake work on acquisitions, disposals or other corporate activity as required. This will include acquisition and fair value accounting and liaising with OpCo’s as required to develop their reporting capability.
• Identify and propose ways of improving our processes and procedures.
Knowledge and experience
• Improve technical understanding of consolidation accounting entries, including application of IFRS and Vodafone accounting policies.
• Build an understanding of the processes required to perform the Vodafone Group consolidation.
Communication
• Act as point of contact for operating and holding companies, together with other Group functions. Answer queries or discuss items with other stakeholders confidently.
• Identify accounting or reporting issues and explain the issue and solutions clearly to management.

• Key interactions with the Group Tax, Treasury and Planning teams, the Europe, ACE, APME & VzW regional finance teams and operating company teams as appropriate

Typical Outputs
• Preparing a full Group consolidation on a monthly basis, involving the completion of reconciliations and other tasks culminating in the production of Group management accounts.
• Preparation of a suite of reports for use by the CFO, Group Executive Committee, Board and Regional Management.
• Prepare notes to the Accounts and other disclosures.
Technical/Professional Expertise
Essential
• ACA Qualified
• 0-2 years PQE
• Good IFRS technical Accounting knowledge
• Able to undertake financial analysis within guidelines
• Understands how to prepare draft financial statements including supporting information
• MS Excel, Word to a high proficiency
Desired
• Capable in use of Financial reporting systems, ideally Hyperion Enterprise or HFM
• Able to consolidate information at a Group level
• Knows how to monitor actual performance against budget and undertake variance analysis
