Essence of Role
Impact on the business
• The solutions developed by the Services Technical Lead (STL) are intended to highlight new business opportunities to the business.
• The Services Technical Lead will be aware of technology used by the business and the impact of any particular technical solution on the business.
Customers, supplier and third parties
• The STL will interface with customers, suppliers and third parties as required to develop and deliver the agreed solution.
Leadership and teamwork
• The STL will be in a leadership role and be expected to show clear leadership on the technical options for the programme and the solution selected.
• The STL will be working with a wide range of individuals needed to deliver the solution and should be skilled in creating and motivating teams of technical staff.
Innovation and change
• The STL will always seek innovation solutions to the problems set and encourage the programme team to innovate.
• The STL will manage the changing goals and changes in budget or staff as necessary on the project.
Knowledge and experience
• The STL will have experience of developing and delivering software based services.
• The STL will have experience of running teams of software developers.
Communication
• The STL must have excellent communications skills and be able to enthuse and motivate others who are working on the technical solution.
• The STL must keep the Programme Manager informed of all significant developments and produce regular progress reports.

Financial (limits/mandates etc.)
• Develop the technical solution (prototype) within the given programme budget.
Non-financial (customers/staff etc)
• Manage a range of staff and external companies as required to deliver the agreed solution.
Typical Outputs
• Service prototypes capable of being end user tested and demonstrated to senior management
• Software based solutions e.g. client software, server software, prototypes build with a variety of technologies (E.g. Android, Iphone clients, .net framework, Java, web applications) via a variety of resources (R&D staff – local and remote, contractors, external companies, partners)
• Oversee the production of technical papers e.g. evaluation of different solution options
• Reports on the specific solution chosen.
Typical Project work:
• Understand project objectives from Programme Manager and interaction with key stakeholders
• Explore the various technical options available to deliver a solution, largely software based.
• Select a technical solution and develop a technical architecture to meet the project objectives.
• Source and manage the resources required to deliver the solution.
• Demonstrate and promote the solution to the Programme Manager and the key stakeholders.
